The rules in brief
- Notice and compensation: An indefinite contract ends with 30 days’ notice (up to 3 months by agreement); notice not given is paid. After dismissal for closure or staff cuts the employer pays up to one month’s pay while you are unemployed. On leaving at retirement age you get 2 months’ pay, or 6 months with 10 years at the same employer. Unused leave is paid.
The legal notice is the same whatever the length of service: 30 days. (indefinite contract (up to 3 months by agreement))
These are the legal minimums. A contract or collective agreement can give longer notice.
