Greek pension calculator 2026: how your pension is worked out
An old-age pension from e-EFKA has two parts: the national pension, a fixed amount for everyone, and the contributory pension, which depends on your pay and years of insurance. An auxiliary (supplementary) pension is usually added. A 6% health contribution and income tax are deducted from the total. The calculator above applies these rules to your case; below we explain them with examples.
When you can retire
- At least 15 years of insurance (4,500 days) are needed for an old-age pension.
- Full pension: at 67 with 15+ years, or at 62 with 40 years (12,000 days).
- Early pension: from 62 with 15+ years, with a lifelong reduction of 1/200 for every month before 67 (6% a year, up to 30%).
- Arduous and unhealthy occupations: with 15 years, most of them in such work, a full pension at 62 and a reduced one from 57.
National pension
It is about €447 a month in 2026 for people with 20 or more years of insurance. It falls by 2% for every year below 20, so with 15 years it is 90%. It also requires 15+ years of residence in Greece after the age of 15, and is paid in full with 40 years of residence.
Contributory pension
It is calculated as average monthly pay over your whole career × replacement rate. Each year of insurance adds 0.77% for the first 15 years, then 0.84%, 0.90%, 0.96%, 1.03% and 1.21%, and 2.55–2.85% for each year after 30 (Law 4670/2020).
| Years of insurance | Replacement rate |
|---|---|
| 25 | 20.68% |
| 33 | 34.02% |
| 35 | 39.32% |
| 40 | 53.07% |
Examples
With an average career salary of €1,500 gross and 14 salaries a year, pensionable earnings are €1,750 a month (bonuses included, over 12 months). Amounts in today's euros:
| Pension | Gross / month | Net / month |
|---|---|---|
| At 67, with 35 years | €1,393.55 | €1,198.17 |
| At 67, with 40 years | €1,673.55 | €1,403.46 |
| At 62, with 25 years (early, −30%) | €682.09 | €641.17 |
For example, at 67 with 35 years: national €446.87 + contributory €688.10 (€1,750 × 39.32%) + auxiliary €258.58 = €1,393.55 gross. After the 6% health contribution (€83.61) and tax (€111.77), €1,198.17 net is left.
The auxiliary pension is an estimate: it depends on your years of insurance before and after 2015 and on your contributions. Pensions are paid 12 times a year and adjusted each year roughly in line with inflation. The final amount is set by e-EFKA.
