Unemployment benefit in Malaysia 2026: how much, and for how long
Unemployment benefit replaces part of your pay when you lose your job, if you were insured long enough. The calculator above estimates the amount and how long it is paid, from your salary and age, with the 2026 rules.
The rules in brief
- Termination benefits: Employees covered by the termination provisions (wages up to RM4,000 a month) with at least 12 months of service get 10 days’ wages for each year under 2 years, 15 days for 2 to 5 years and 20 days from 5 years, pro rata for part years. Compensation for loss of employment is tax-free up to RM10,000 per completed year of service. Notice is 4, 6 or 8 weeks by service unless the contract gives more.
- Employment Insurance System: If you lose your job involuntarily, the EIS pays a job search allowance of 80% of your insured monthly wage (up to RM6,000) in the first month, falling to 30% by the sixth, for 3 to 6 months depending on your contributions, while you look for work through MYFutureJobs.
Single person aged 35 without children; 9.8 years of service.
