Retirement age in Portugal: when you can claim your pension
When you can retire depends on your year of birth and how many years you have been insured. The calculator above shows the earliest age and the age for a full pension, and what each age would pay.
The rules in brief
- Old-age pension: Reference earnings = average of your best 40 years (revalued), ÷ 14. Each year of contributions adds 2.3% of the part up to 1.1 × IAS, 2.25% up to 2 × IAS, 2.2% up to 4 × IAS, 2.1% up to 8 × IAS and 2% above (IAS €537.13 in 2026). Minimum 15 years. Paid 14 times a year.
- Age: Normal age 66 years 9 months in 2026 and 66 years 11 months in 2027, then linked to life expectancy. It drops by 4 months for each year above 40 of contributions at age 60. Early from 60 with 40 years: −0.5% a month before your personal age. Working past it adds a bonus.
