Severance pay in Singapore 2026: notice, severance and unemployment benefit
When a job ends in Singapore, the calculator above estimates the statutory severance pay, the notice period, the payment for unused leave and the unemployment benefit, with the tax on each part. Below you will find the rules in brief and examples for different lengths of service.
The rules in brief
- Notice and retrenchment: Unless the contract sets otherwise, notice is 1 day under 26 weeks of service, 1 week up to 2 years, 2 weeks up to 5 years and 4 weeks after. The law sets no retrenchment benefit; under the tripartite guidelines employees with at least 2 years of service usually receive 2 weeks to 1 month of pay per year of service.
- Jobseeker support: There is no unemployment insurance. Since April 2025 the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme pays involuntarily unemployed citizens and permanent residents who earned up to $5,000 a month up to $6,000 over 6 months, linked to job search and training activities.
