Private pension in the United Arab Emirates 2026: what a contribution really costs

Paying into a private or workplace pension in the United Arab Emirates usually lowers your tax and sometimes your social-security contributions, so each unit you put in costs you less than it adds to the plan. The calculator above works this out for your salary. Below you will find this year’s effect on your pay, the tax rules and how the plan compares with saving the money yourself.

This year: salary without and with the plan

        Without plan (AED)With plan (AED)
        Gross / year (incl. bonus)180,000180,000
        Social security−60−60
        Your contribution–−9,000
        Income tax−0−0
        Take-home / year179,940170,940
        Employer contribution–+0
Into the plan (you + employer)–9,000
        Total received / year (take-home + plan)179,940179,940

In the example, your net pay is AED 14,245.00 a month with the plan: AED 750.00 less than without it (AED 14,995.00) · tax & contributions saved cover 0.0%. In this case contributions bring no tax saving on your pay; any advantage comes from the support described under the tax treatment below. The balance could reach AED 305,033 (you AED 180,000 · employer AED 0 · return AED 125,033); at payout that is about AED 305,033 net (after 0.0% tax & charges).

        Tax treatment

With no income tax, a private plan has no tax advantage over investing yourself: compare the fees. Employers can pay the end-of-service gratuity into an approved savings fund under the voluntary scheme introduced in 2023. There is no income tax, so savings get no tax relief and withdrawals are not taxed.

        Frequently asked questions

Is it worth paying into a private pension in the United Arab Emirates?

In the example, the plan leaves you AED 0 better off than saving the same money yourself, mainly because of the tax relief and any employer contribution. Returns are not guaranteed.

        Do contributions lower my tax?

Not in this case: your take-home pay falls by the full contribution. The support for this kind of saving is explained in the tax treatment above.

        What happens at payout?

In the example you would receive about AED 305,033 (after 0.0% tax & charges). Payout rules and taxes are listed in the tax section above.

Which return does the calculator assume?

The return is your own assumption in the calculator, not a forecast. Investments can lose value; try more than one value.
